It’s definitely not everyday that as an artist you are asked to create a hotel suite in your name! I am not going to lie, I did almost fall off my chair when the call from one of my favourite clients Langham Melbourne came through about a year ago to create a very special ‘Kerrie Hess Suite’ at the hotel.
The idea was to completely transform the existing suite into something very bespoke. With custom artwork, furniture, pendants and flooring. A dream project! With my very first thoughts being a soft colour palette of dusty pink and pale grey. The colours of a Parisian apartment or couture atelier. The colours that make me think of Christian Dior in the 1950’s.
We started with custom artworks in these tones. Including one very large custom canvas! Custom furniture was then picked out and covered in soft dusty pink Warwick fabric. Much of the beautiful (but very heavy) dark mahogany furniture was transformed by hand into soft cream tones to match the light Paris apartment feeling in the space. And when the pink curtains went in, it really started to feel like the space was coming together…
We decided to add my favourite dress by my great friend George Wu to the suite for the launch, in which Grace and I attended several events for recently. I am so proud of this project. The feeling when we arrived in Melbourne to the finished suite was even more magical than I had imagined it would be.
The suite sleeps four with two large bedrooms, a seperate lounge and dining as well as a full kitchen. Every booking comes with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne and custom chocolates from Koko Black. There are also experience options that can be booked with the suite of massages, fresh flowers in every room, monogramed silk pyjamas and a curated picnic of treats.
A hotel room like no other… Your very own Paris apartment in the heart of Melbourne.
